3rd APT JSO(ASEAN+3 Junior Science Odyssey) EVENT OUTLINE

3rd APT JSO Contents
Purpose • Encourage and challenge gifted science students to excel in the field of Science and Technology.
• Stimulate student's intellectual curiosity through various experiences and experiments.
• Foster friendship and networking among gifted students in the APT region.
• Motivate students to pursue careers in Science and Technology.
Theme Innovative Agriculture for Global Sustainability (2014 International Year of Family Farming)
Date 23 - 29 June 2014 (7 days 6 Nights)
Venue National Science Museum THAILAND (NSM), Pathum Thani, THAILAND
Participants • two (2) teams from each country
• Each team should consist of three (3) students and one (1) teacher/mentor
  • - Selected gifted and talented students should be aged between 13 to 15 years.
  • - Teachers should be educators of Science in their respective countries.

SELECTION CRITERIA

3rd APT JSO SELECTION CRITERIA Contents
Selection Criteria for Students • The programme will target top Science students from ASEAN+3. • To ensure that selected students benefit fully from their participation, the Science students should.
  • - Between 13 and 15 years of age as on January of the contest year
  • - Have experience in science research or competitions
  • - Possess good oral proficiency in English
  • - Be academically able and is among the top 5% of their cohort
  • - Be willing to network with fellow students at the JSO.
Selection Criteria for Teachers • To ensure that the teachers benefit fully from their participation, the Science teachers should be
  • - Educators or senior personnel in Science in a school or another educational institution
  • - Proficient in English
  • - Possess good oral proficiency in English
  • - Able to share their learning points and experiences to other Science teachers
  • - Able to implement teaching ideas or strategies in school

PROGRAMME

3rd APT JSO PROGRAMME Contents
Student Programme • Part 1 - Poster presentation (Size: 70 cm (W) x 100 cm (H))
  • - Theme : Innovative Agriculture for Global Sustainability
  • - Sub theme : to be informed
• Part 2 - Laboratory Skills Assessments
  • - Three (3) students in one (1) team; made up from the same country
• Part 3 - Presentation of Field Projects
  • - made up of students from different country
• Overall - Certificates for all Participants
